Rhodes Memorial

On a very hot Sunday morning, we visited Rhodes Memorial on the slopes of Devil’s Peak, with a couple of work colleagues of Richard’s. They had just arrived in the country, after some very long flights from Sydney and London.

We decided to treat them (and us) to a delicious breakfast at the popular Tea Garden. Afterwards, we stopped to marvel at the incredible views from the Memorial.

And as I wandered around the immense structure with its brass lions, tall columns, and proud statue of a horse and rider, I recalled a memorable visit to the Memorial in February last year, with a most unusual visitor to our shores: an adventurous ‘young lady’ by the name of Flat Kathy. I had written about the occasion on her blog: Ferocious lions at Rhodes Memorial. Have a look, if you’re curious to meet her.

Happy memories!

    • Thank you, Stefan. 🙂 Yes, Sunday was a very, very hot day. Just the way you like it. Although I hope you get some really wonderful warm days during your upcoming visit to South Africa, I am *personally* hoping for slightly *less* warm weather next Saturday. 😉
