After having such fun assembling and decorating our gingerbread houses or Knusperhäuschen, we decided that the best way of sharing the Christmas spirit was to donate the two houses to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. We thought it would bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the children who have to be stuck in hospital over the festive season.
I drove to the Hospital with friend and fellow photographer Glynnis from the Pinelands Muse to deliver the two Knusperhäuschen to the Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association, who are responsible for collecting, sorting and distributing all donations.
FOCHA is a non-profit organisation that has been in existence since 1978; their purpose is to “to accelerate and maintain the recovery of patients” by “providing resources, education and support to patients, care-givers and immediate families”. I’d encountered the dedicated and wonderful staff during previous visits to the Hospital. A beautiful video about the work of the Friends can be found on their Facebook page here.
Ronald and Kim posed cheerfully with the two gingerbread houses. Thank you for allowing me to use your photo, Glynnis!
